Mixed Loading ChecksAccording to dangerous goods regulations, dangerous goods may not be transported in the same transport unit in just any combination, even if they individually meet regulations on quantity, packaging, and so on. An example of such a regulation-dependent mixed loading prohibition is listed here; in accordance with ADR, packages with the danger label 4.1 (inflammable solids) must not be loaded with packages with the danger label 1 (explosive substances and articles).

checks dangerous goods shipments to ensure that only such dangerous goods whose mixed loading is allowed in accordance with the dangerous goods regulations and their individual requirements are transported in the same transport unit.

Segregation rules for enterprise-specific mixed loading groups
Mixed loading rules
Segregation rules for segregation keys
Even if the system registers mixed loading prohibitions at the first and most detailed level, all levels are still processed. The registered mixed loading prohibitions are recorded as error messages in the check log.
It is hereby possible for you to map individual, enterprise-specific stricter dangerous goods regulations.
You have the option of using the value assignment type Mixed Loading Check Details
to assign real substances to enterprise-specific mixed loading groups. These enterprise-specific mixed loading groups can be any groupings or even individual substances, and do not depend on the regulations.
Example
For example, no shipments in which benzaldehyde is loaded with ethanol or other alcohols should leave your enterprise. This instance can be intercepted by the system with the following settings:
In Customizing for Dangerous Goods Management
, you define a segregation rule for enterprise-specific mixed loading groups, which states that the mixed loading group 1 (benzaldehyde) must be loaded separately from the mixed loading group 2 (alcohols).
You use the value assignment type Mixed Loading Check Details
to assign the real substance benzaldehyde to the enterprise-specific mixed loading group 1.
You use the value assignment type Mixed Loading Check Details
to assign the real substance ethanol to the enterprise-specific mixed loading group 2.
The mixed loading check Mixed Loading Rules
is a check using regulation-dependent mixed loading groups such as acids, perchlorates, or powdered metals. These groups are assigned UN-listed substances.
You can use the value assignment type Dangerous Goods Regulations
to assign UN-listed substances to both regulation-dependent mixed loading groups and mixed loading rules. Furthermore, you can use the value assignment type Mixed Loading Check Details
to edit the value assignment Mixed Loading Group

Example
For example, the IMDG Code specifies that barium permanganate (UN 1448, danger label 5.1) as an oxidizing substance is to be transported separately from powdered metals (such as magnesium powder, UN 1418). This instance can be intercepted by the system with the following settings:
In Customizing for Dangerous Goods Management
, you define a mixed loading rule 1 for the IMDG code, which states: Separate from mixed loading group 15 (powdered metals).
For the UN-listed substance barium permanganate, you store the mixed loading rule 1 for the value assignment type Dangerous Goods Regulations
You use the value assignment type Dangerous Goods Regulations
to assign the UN-listed substance magnesium powder to the mixed loading group 15.
Note
There are no UN-listed substances for foodstuffs. To be able to map the Away from Foodstuffs
restriction required in individual regulations in the system, it is possible to assign real substances that are not dangerous goods (for example, honey) to a mixed loading group.
Important: For the dangerous goods checks procedure, it is essential to create dangerous goods master records for the material honey in the case mentioned above.
During this mixed loading check, the system bases the check on a regulation-dependent decision matrix.
You assign the segregation keys defined specifically for regulations in Customizing for Dangerous Goods Management
to UN-listed substances.
Note
In the standard SAP system, the danger labels can be used as the segregation keys. If you have edited the characteristic Danger Label Number
for the value assignment type Dangerous Goods Regulations
, this information is used for the check method Mixed Loading Check
. For this, you need to assign the segregation keys to the danger labels in the Customizing activity Specify Danger Labels
.
However, the dangerous goods regulations also allow for special cases. For example, according to IMDG, bromine pentafluoride (UN 1745) is to be transported as dangerous label 5.1, but separately from 4.1 and 7. You can map such cases by making an additional entry under Segregation Key
to override the Danger Label Number

You assign the corresponding danger labels or segregation keys to UN-listed substances in the value assignment type Dangerous Goods Regulations

For UN-listed substances and real substances, process the required assignments for the value assignment types Dangerous Goods Labels
and Mixed Loading Check Details
in accordance with the dangerous-goods-regulation-specific and enterprise-specific regulations.
The settings made are transferred to the dangerous goods master by the filling. However, you can also enter details relevant for the mixed loading check in the dangerous goods master directly. For this, you can use the Mixed Loading
tab page.
The dangerous goods check method Mixed Loading Checks
considers the loading of dangerous goods on separate shipping objects.
Example
For example, the joint shipment of two dangerous goods on the same tractor trailer may be prohibited. However, if one of the dangerous goods is on the loading area of the motor vehicle and the other is on the trailer, and the motor vehicle and trainer are mapped as separate shipping objects in the system, the transport may be allowed.
Important: In the standard SAP delivery of the dangerous goods check method Mixed Loading Checks
, combinations that are not entered in the Customizing tables under the Customizing activity Specify Settings for Mixed Loading Checks
are considered to be permitted by the dangerous goods regulations.
